


Bjarteyjarsandur in Hvalfjörður is located by road No. 47, about 70 km from Reykjavík. Bjarteyjarsandur is a farm which also offers facilities for tourists.
The farm is located by the sea and there is a beautiful beach, with possibility of mussel picking and bird watching. Interesting walking trails are in the area, for example to the magnificent waterfall Glymur.
There are many great and beautiful sights throughout the district. Hvalfjörður is a scenic, mountainous fjord said to be one of the most beautiful in all Iceland. After the 2nd World War, a whaling station was started there and was the longest running station in the country. The waterfall Glymur is in Hvalfjördur, the highest waterfall in Iceland, 198m. Saurbær in Hvalfjördur is well-known for being the home of Hallgrímur Pétursson from 1651-1669. He wrote the famous “Passíusálmar”, one of the greatest psalms ever written in Iceland.
